What stand out most about this time period (1962)? (The Crucible)?

McCarthyism. The red scare. We were in the Cold War versus the USSR, and paranoia of communism had devoured the country. Arther Miller wrote the whole play as a parallel to what was occurring at the time to take a stab at McCarthyism and show people how outrageous it was.
