If I pay rent do I have to listen to my parents?
I have a part time job and attend a local college. I commute there and back everyday because it is cheaper. I had to start paying my parents rent as soon as I turned 18 and consequently have the upstairs level of the house to myself. However, my parents still try to regulate me as though I'm a child. (I'm 18). They do not respect my privacy or freedom. They try to force me to go to church on Sundays even if I was up until 4 the night before writing a report. They try to regulate what music I listen to and even went as far to remove R rated movies from my room that they didn't approve of. I know they care and it must be hard to accept I'm an adult but they are driving me CRAZY. I help out around the house with laundry, dishes, taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, cleaning, etc but they do not respect my decisions. One time I brought a boy home, to work on studying together, and my mom told me to keep my door open to make sure I wasn't doing the nasty as she put it. Do I really have to listen.
